Antique Creamware Bat Print Black Transferware Laughing Man Pitcher circa 1820
Here is a rare Liverpool creamware pitcher decorated with black overglaze transfer. The pitcher is molded, with a high strap handle, hand painted blue trim on the rim, and is decorated with a "Laughing Man" bat print transfer on each side. Circa 1820. Bat transfer is a method of transfering delicate prints using glue "bats" that was used from 1800 to 1820. No maker's mark.
The pitcher measures 8 1/4 inches tall. It weighs 2 lbs (shipping weight 4 lbs)
Condition: Good, save a small chip on the foot and another on the spout, as shown. No crazing save for a glaze crack on the base (does not go through). Wear on the Laughing Man print.
