Hand Painted Italian Faience Harvest Wheat 40 Piece Dinner Service Pippo Cetona
Finely hand thrown and painted service of faience studio pottery pitchers hand painted with wheat and flower designs. The pieces are marked "Pippo Cetona Italia". Pippo is the name of the potter, Pippo Cicerchia of Laboratoria Ceramiche Pippo (his son Franco now runs the business). Cetona is the name of a town south of Siena.
The service is comprised of 40 pieces:
12 dinner plates 10 1/4 inches wide
12 salad plates 8 5/8 inches wide
8 soup bowls 8 1/2 inches wide
8 10 oz mugs 3 5/8 inches tall
The service weighs 42 lbs (shipping weight 55 lbs in two large double boxed packages).
Condition: Very good. No wear or damage at all on the plates and soup bowls, save for a few tiny rim glaze frits, as common to tin glazed earthenware, aka faience. Please view the detail photos.The mugs have some interior marks from use and a few have internal crazing of the glaze.
