Rare Wedgwood Eric Ravilious Elizabeth II Coronation Oversize Mug 1953
Fine 1953 Elizabeth II Coronation Ravilious mug by Wedgwood. It has printed Wedgwood marks:
'TO COMMEMORATE THE CORONATION OF HER
MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II - 1953 - WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND - FROM THE DESIGN BY ERIC RAVILIOUS.'

Ravilious’s first commission from Wedgwood was for a mug to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII, expected to take place in 1937. This design was then revised for the coronations of George VI, 1937, and Queen Elizabeth II, 1953. This example is the 1953 design for the coronation of Elizabeth II. The original drawing is in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
