Pair of Original 18th Century Carpenter Hand Colored Character Engravings 1790

  • $295.00

Here is a rare handsome pair of antique mezzotint engraving of characters from late 18th Century Georgian England. One print is titled "The Lamplighter" the other "The Greenwich Pensioner". The lamplighter is shown at his work on the streets of London. The Greenwich pensioner is shown pointing to Greenwich Hospital, the Queen's House and the Royal Observatory. The prints were published by N. Carpenter of 60 Spencer St, London. One print is so marked, the other has been trimmed to remove the verse which originally appeared under the image and has lost the marking. These late 18th century hand colored engravings have been framed in fine quality veneered wood frames of the same period.

The images are 12 inches tall by 9 3/4 inches wide. The frames are 17 1/4 inches tall by 15 1/4 inches wide. The pair weighs 9 lbs. Shipping weight 14 lbs.

Condition: Very Good. The engraving has vivid colors, with little age toning. Minor wear on the frame. Please see the detail photos below. Any streaks on the photos are reflections of the camera and light tent.
