18th Century Watercolor on Paper of a Young Man Smoking a Pipe
Here is a charming well painting watercolor of a young man smoking a pipe. The young man's clothes and hairstyle date the painting to circa 1770. The style of the pipe is German; the style of the painting looks German to me as well. The painting is executed on laid paper; you can see the ridges of the paper if you look closely. The painting is framed in a in a period oval leather frame that has a metal loop to hang it by. There is no signature.
The framed painting measures 7 3/4 inches tall by 6 7/8 inches wide. The oval painting is about 5 1/4 tall by 4 3/8 inches wide by sight. It weighs about 6 oz (shipping weight 1 lb).
Condition: The painting is is very good condition. All original, save for the backing, which has been replaced. The frame has some very minor nicks to its edges, as shown.
